Nudging as a behavioral psychological effect is already widely used – espacially in health promotion and prevention – and describes a method in which the behavioral contexts of an environment are deliberately shaped in such a way that people favor a certain behavior without placing them in front of a conscious decision or forcing them to do so.
The Risk Dialogue Foundation has been working on the approach of nudging in different contexts for some time (see nudging to increase occupational safety and Nudging in the field of environment and sustainability) and is publishing a new study on behalf of the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH, the Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air of the City of Zurich AWEL and the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO, in which the possibilities of using targeted nudges to improve the UV protection of the Swiss population are investigated. In a multi-stage, creative development process, the Risk Dialogue Foundation, with the involvement of various experts and representatives of target groups, developed 12 nudges that provide new and creative ways of improving sun protection in the leisure time. The nudges are described and analysed in detail in our project report. You can download it at Nudging to improve UV protection.
